Date: 7 April 2006
Location: Swartswood Lake in Blairstown, NJ.
Conditions: Mild cross tail that progressively got stronger as the crew went down the course.
Course: Slightly shorter than 1500m (approx 1480)

Boy’s 1st 4+:

Blair: 4:59.0 CBA: 5:11.0* Hun: 5:23.0
*trailing by 1/2 a boatlength, CBA boat caught a crab in the last 10 strokes of the race.

Boys' 2nd 4+:

Friday 4/7 vs. Blair & Hun- Race Update

CBA traveled to Swartswood State Park on Friday to race The Hun School and last year's State Champions, Blair Academy. The Colts showed good speed as all three varsity boats were able to defeat Hun. The Colt's Senior and Lightweight boats hung tough with two very fast Blair boats only to drop close decisions at the line. The JV four however was able to power through their opponents in the last 500 meters to take home the win!

Next stop is Philadelphia as the squad travels to the 4th Manny Flick Regatta on Sunday the 9th. Racing for the Colts begins at 12:45.

Race Schedule:

12:45 - Novice 4
2:00- JV 4
2:45- Lwt 4
3:20- Varsity 4

Arrival times:

Lightweights must be at the St. Joe's boathouse at 8 AM for weigh-ins.

Novice must be at the course by 10 AM

Remaining varsity must arrive by 11 AM

Directions:

1) NJ turnpike South to exit 4
2) keep right onto route 73 north
3)about two miles down rt 73 on your right you will exit onto 38 west toward the Ben Franklin Bridge
4)stay on 38 west for approach 10 mins (you will pass the Cherry Hill mall), once you pass the large flower store (Flower World?) on your right you will go under an overpass and two lanes will merge in from your right. Get into one of the two right hand lanes which will send you onto Route 30 west toward Camden/Ben Franklin Bridge.
5) follow 30 West to the Ben Franklin Bridge, go over the bridge and get into one of the two left hand lanes.
6) as you come over the bridge, four lanes become six. stay left (but don't get into the turning lane) and follow one of those two lanes straight through the lights up the ramp onto 676 west.
7) stay on 676 west and keep left until it merges with 76 west.
8) you will be on 76 west for about 5-10 mins, keeping in one of the two left lanes to avoid the right hand "exit only" lanes.
9) shortly after two lanes splits off to the right (route 1, I think) you will see an exit for Lincoln Drive/Kelly Drive (right hand exit). Take this exit.
10) at the bottom of the ramp there will be a stop sign. you can only make a right. make the right and immediately get into the far left lane as the kelly drive exit will come up immediately on your left.
11) take the ramp towards Kelly Dr (banks sharply to your left)12) as the ramp comes full circle, it splits again, stay right and follow Kelly drive along the river.
13) you will go through two or three lights and then you will come up on the police blockade right by the canoe club

Friday 4/7 vs. Blair & Hun

This Friday we will be traveling to Blairstown, NJ to race Blair Academy and The Hun School. I received the following schedule from the Blair coaches:

Events will be as follows with 10 minutes between each event:
4:00 1st Boys 4+ Hun, CBA, and Blair
4:10 1st Girls 4+ Hun, and Blair
4:20 Girls Novice 8+ Hun and Blair
4:30 2nd Boys 4+ Hun, CBA, and Blair
4:40 2nd Girls 4+ Hun and Blair
4:50 Boys Novice 8+ Hun and Blair
5:00 3rd Boys 4+ Hun, CBA, and Blair
5:10 3rd Girls 4+ Hun and Blair
5:20 Novice Boys 4+ CBA and Blair

We will be launching from Swartswood State Park (directions to follow). Blair Academy is kindly planning a cookout to feed the athletes after the races so that we can load the trailer, eat and head home. Please see the note below from Coach Stajk about travel to Friday's race.

Gentlemen,
This is Mr. Stajk. I just wanted to inform you and your parents that we were granted permission by Brother James to race early on Friday, April 7th at 2 p.m. He signed a slip allowing us to leave school after 5th period at 12:15 p.m. That gives you an hour and 45 minutes to get changed and travel to Blair Academy. One important note: all rowers who do not have their NJ drivers license must be driven by their parents or someone else's parents. I would encourage the novice guys to car pool with one another if possible to make it easier on your parents. All parents are invited to come and watch the event that day. It's going to be a fun time. If you have any questions, suggestions, comments, or concerns, email myself or Scott back at any time.

CBA Crew Season Opener
Saturday, April 1st
Mercer Lake, West Windsor, NJ

CBA Crew kicked off the 2006 Spring season with a scrimmage at Mercer Lake against The Peddie School. The entire Colt varsity squad showed great composure in bad conditions on Saturday as each of the three varsity boats were able to sweep a series of four 750 meter races from their opponents.

Next Friday, the Colts hit the road to Blairstown, New Jersey to officially open their spring racing season. CBA will face Blair Academy and The Hun School. Blair Academy won the 2005 NJ State Championship, and went on to make the finals at the Stotesbury Cup, placing them among the top ten Senior 4s in the country.

To recap last year's final race, here is how CBA Crew finished at the 2005 Stotesbury Cup Regatta:

Varsity 4 - 17th out of 41 in the head race, 18th overall. In only our second year on the water our Senior 4+ was able to qualify for the semi-finals. We were 20 seconds off the winning time, but placing 17th was good enough to move on! On Saturday, the boat finished last in their semi-final with a time of 5:18.5. This is the first CBA boat ever to qualify for a Stotesbury semi-final race! This is a big jump from our 30th place finish (out of 42 boats) in our Stotesbury debut in 2004. Congratulations to the entire team for helping take this huge step forward for such a young program!

Junior 4 - 28th out of 57 in the head race - We missed qualifying for the semi-finals by 6 seconds, and were 23 seconds off the winning time. With half of the boat made up of novices, this represents huge progress from 2004, where we finished 56th of 58 crews.

Lightweight 4 - 23rd out of 38 in the head race - we missed qualifying for the semi-finals by 3 seconds, and were 20 seconds off the winning time. This is outstanding progress for a boat comprised entirely of novice rowers. In 2004 we placed 39th out of 41, missing the semi-finals by 30 seconds .
